Day Seven: COVID-19 Self Quarantine - Our Story

Day 7: Vinyl Day, Pepper Planting & Wii

Saturday, March 21, 2020

Every Saturday at our house seems to be vinyl music listening day. If you are friends with my husband on Facebook or follow him on Instagram, you know how many albums he listens too, he takes pictures and posts every single one of them (for all of his followers 🤣).

Kenny Rogers vinyl album
9:00am - Slept in a little bit. Checked my cell phone to see if there were any messages or anything exciting going on in the world. (Exciting has a new meaning to me apparently). Noticed that Kenny Rogers passed away. Wow, I was never a huge Kenny Rogers fan, but I am a Dolly fan, and that is kind of the same thing then. Went downstairs to tell hubby.

9:15am - We are currently listening to every Kenny Rogers vinyl album that we own. Having a flashback to my childhood and camping at Jellystone Campground in Warrens, Wisconsin. If you grew up in Minnesota or Wisconsin, chances are pretty high you camped there at least once too. Hubby collects vinyl albums, (current personal count is over 600, don't ask about the collection in the basement that he needs to go through....), we have two of Kenny Roger's most popular ones. It is sad that we know all of his songs and we barely ever listen to them.

"You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille
With four hungry children and a crop in the field
I've had some bad times, lived through some sad times
But this time your hurting won't heal
You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille"

9:30am - List of albums we are listening to all day today:

  • two Kenny Rogers albums
  • The Eagles
  • The Beatles
  • Eric Clapton
  • Kenny Loggins
  • Doobie Brothers
  • Bruce Springsteen
  • Lynyrd Skynyrd
  • Credence Clearwater Revival
  • The Young Ones on YouTube
  • I lost track.....

11:30am - Teach the oldest boy about the BBC show The Young Ones. Wow, I don't remember this show being quite so annoying. Had to fast forward to the episode with Motorhead to show him that one. If you are interested, I have only been able to find it on YouTube for streaming, if you don't know who The Young Ones are, trust me, don't waste your time.

12:15pm - Wake the youngest boy up so he doesn't sleep the day away. Set out all of the supplies that he needs to be able to start his summer pepper plants for the garden. He wants to can super hot salsa this fall, so he needs to start thinking about his peppers now. Planting two varieties of sweet peppers (they can't all be hot) and his seeds collected from previous harvests of Dragon Cayenne and Carolina Reapers.

1:00pm - The boys are moving our Wii from the basement, where all the video game consoles and games are kept, up to the main family room. Planning some sort of Wii tournament this weekend now. Then we remember that we gave a bunch of games and a good controller to our daughter to use at her house. The boys take off to her house, where she put them on her front step, and waved from the window. Youngest boy drove there and back, got another 30 minutes on his permit. Hmmm, might just need to take him out driving next week so he can finish up his permit driving time.

1:30pm - Wii is officially back in the family room. All of our old characters are still on the system. Neighbors from our last house are still loaded too. Way to funny. The boys are screaming and yelling they are having so much fun playing Wii Sports. I sneek upstairs to start pinning my face masks together with the elastic.

Planting Hot Peppers
6:00pm - The boys and hubby are STILL PLAYING THE Wii. They are having so much fun and they are all playing together, so I am happy. I have started sewing a few masks together, but need a break. Taped them playing to make a quick TikTok. I have an account that I was using for student teaching, but with no student teaching right now, figured I would use it to show what I am doing during quarantine. I posted it at the bottom of this post.

7:00pm - Making a late dinner of meatloafs in a muffin pan. The grease bubbled over, and I almost set the smoke alarms off. We had to pull out the big box fans it got so smokey in the house. But now I am wondering why the new smoke/CO2 alarms we installed a few months ago did not go off? Guess I will add clean the oven onto tomorrows to-do list.

8:00pm - Boys are all STILL playing the Wii. Oldest boy had to go put his knee brace on! Things are getting serious. Guessing hubby is going to need some ibuprofen in the morning. I sneek upstairs again, but this time to the bedroom. The oldest gave me the night off of watching Marvel movies because he is having so much fun with the Wii. I click on Disney+ and start watching Frozen 2. Ahh, me time. I got through about an hour of it before I fell asleep. Hopefully I will remember to finish watching it at some point.

Good night all.
